About Compass Systems
In a company founded by a restless material handling engineer, a constant search for better ideas is a given.
Robert Sherrod founded Compass Systems in the living room of his Jackson Township, Ohio home in 1998. His vision was to explore new ideas and offer a turnkey engineering / fabrication / installation resource to his clients. Soon the business grew into an old manufacturing facility along Route 241 in Green, Ohio. Manufacturing took place in a series of winding spaces in back and the engineers were crammed into the small office space up front. Our next door neighbor made ceramic pots.
By 2011 we had developed the aluminum scrap recovery systems that were helping make aluminum pick-up trucks affordable. Business was booming and we found a large, modern industrial building in Barberton, Ohio. Here we were able to greatly upgrade our manufacturing capabilities with over 92,500 sq. ft. of modern manufacturing space, complete with overhead cranes and advanced metal cutting and welding areas. In the expansive front office we invested heavily in AutoDesk Inventor 3D System Modeling software, a critical link in upgrading our system design capabilities. With the business on a steady upward trajectory, we introduced new products for the cotton ginning industry and developed new scrap and finished parts handling systems for a growing list of markets.
By 2014 business had grown to the point that we needed a strong financial partner to fuel future growth. Alston Capital Partners in New York became part of our team and have provided the strong financial and business planning support we needed to maintain a solid rate of growth.
Today Compass Systems and Sales maintains a headquarters campus in Barberton with over 200,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and rapidly expanding offices for engineering, project management and service operations. The foundation of our success remains a commitment to engineering excellence and turnkey manufacturing, installation and service support.
